Major part of Hanoi-Lao Cai highway completed
This marked great efforts of VEC and its commitment to the Ministry of Transport as of two months ago, when only 74%-78% of the 70km long section was finished.

VEC Deputy General Director, Le Kim Thanh said that after surfacing with asphalt, VEC will speed up other support works such as a toll station system, water drainage channel, tree planting and road surface line marking among others, to put Vietnam's longest highway into operation in mid-September.

Thus, after five years of construction, the entire 245km highway has been completed, which will shorten travel time from Hanoi to Lao Cai to 3.5 hours instead of seven hours.

The Hanoi-Lao Cai highway begins at the intersection between National Highway 2 and Bac Thang Long-Noi Bai Highway in Hanoi and ends at Quang Kim commune in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province.

Sapa is an attracted tourist hub where is located in the northern mountainous area of Vietnam. It's estimated that there were about 500.000 foreigners whom travel to Sapa last year and 90% of them were transported by train. Railway is always the priority and safety transportation means of the traveler currently however it is quite slow - 08 hours with an overnight on train. There is also a traffic road (No.2) from Hanoi to Sapa but it's narrow and dangerous on its low-conditional of bumpy, extremely deep slope and high pass thus it's clearly not a tourist trail.

A great news come in this month - September. A modern auto-highway (Hanoi - Lao Cai Highway) is completed after 3 years of construction. The timing is now shortened to 3.5 hours as the same timing of driving to Halong Bay. If you have a short schedule of holiday - this is really a good plan.
